Why should I back up the Entourage Database?
- Entourage can rebuild its database.
- But your software fails, or your hard disk fails, you may have to remove Microsoft Office 2004 and reinstall the software
- The Remove Office tool might erase your data if you do this, or remove earlier versions of Office
- If you back up your data to a CD or separate hard disk, you can reinstall Office and restore your data
"My Entourage won't start up! How can I can get it back?"
Rebuild your Entourage Database- Try to restart it, holding down the Option key
- You will have the choice of verifying your database integrity or rebuilding it. If you have time, try verifying it first
-
If you don't have time, rebuild it
NOTE: This will create a large backup database that uses lots of disk space -
This should fix Entourage
You may see two copies of each e-mail
If Entourage still won't start up...
- Quit Entourage and all Office 2004 applications
-
Find the Entourage Main User folder
>>Hard Drive>Users>[you] Home User>Documents>Microsoft User Data>Office 2004 Identities>Main User - Locate the Database file and drag it to the trash
- Restart your Macintosh
- Empty the trash
- Restore your backed up Database file
-
Find your Microsoft User Data backup disk.
If it is on a separate computer, it is best to copy the files from that computer to your current machine (be sure file sharing is turned on) -
Open the backup Main User folder
>>Backup disk>Microsoft User Data>Office 2004 Identities>Main User -
Locate the Database file. From the Macintosh Finder's
Edit menu, choose Copy -
Open the Main User folder on the ailing Macintosh
>>Hard Drive>Users>[you] Home User>Documents>Microsoft User Data>Office 2004 Identities>Main User - From the Macintosh Finder's Edit menu, choose Paste
- Close the folder and restart Entourage
